High Quality Air Conditioning & Cooling Systems for Factories & Offices, Professional Bar
The Brickyard, featured in TV reality show Towie for 8 years, is now the site of family restaurant Smokey’s Shack in Romford, which will soon be joined by other businesses and homes. [Although the eatery had to be close again shortly after opening as the kitchen needed to be made bigger!]
The area redevelopment will also see the appearance of new homes along with shops and other retail places. The land in South Street, Romford, was the subject of an application to Havering Council which was validated in March. The proposed development will consist of 81 residential units, including one bed, two bed, three bed apartments and a five bed unit.
According to the application, a useful amount of commercial space will be available on the ground floor covering 420sq metres, and to incorporate a blend of shops, businesses offering professional and financial services and restaurants and cafés. Romford based company Form Architecture created the project designs, and the planning statement says: “The immediate change to architectural style and built form around the site presents a challenge in creating a new development that responds to both low and high rise buildings.
“However, there is an opportunity to present the site as a focal point, forming a gateway into the town centre when approached from the south.
“This site forms an area which is currently underdeveloped resulting in a weak urban form, unlike other locations around the town centre, which have been improved.”
We see a lot more emphasis on the value of aesthetics in modern building developments, along with a greater importance given to green areas and quality of life. There are also efforts to encourage access to training for careers in construction and all aspects of the building trade.
